I remember watching Mama Mia - The Movie, with my kids and had a great time. It was full of memories, especially those ABBA songs. Yes, it was like 30 years ago when I was a teenager like my 15 year old daughter.

Other than the fun storyline, the romance and those songs, I remember being quite captivated by a young actress, who played the daughter to the mom, famously immortalised by Meryl Streep.

Other than her overall youthful demeanor, Amanda has the most beautiful skin, not mentioning her lovely, mesmerizing green eyes. Well, some girls have all the luck! HAHA!

I was caught speechless, momentarily.

When I was a young girl, growing up in a certain part of Kuala Lumpur, tattoos are a no-no. Only gangsters get tattoos. If you are stopped by the road and the police found tattoos on your body, you are suspected of being a triad member.

Now, you see tattoos on people you least expect, like that red rose on the shoulder of that lovely young mother who's cradling her 1 year old baby daughter at the mall.

When it comes to figures, Jennifer Aniston’s is pretty flawless. But for those looking for some help from the scalpel, long, lean and supermodel-y beat out the petite “girl-next-door” look in 2010.
Aniston came in second for the “Most Desired Female Body” on the 14th Annual “Famed Hottest Looks” survey, compiled by Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeons Dr. Richard Fleming and Dr. Toby Mayer.

Even after giving birth in December 2009, Brazilian-born supermodel Gisele Bundchen was the most requested body by the doctors' patients. “Different body types are represented on the list because most women are shaped differently and want to look naturally beautiful,” explained Dr. Fleming. “Some women want the lean look like Gisele, while others want to retain their roundness – just not too round. Men, on the other hand, all want a six-pack regardless of their body type.”On that note, Mark Wahlberg took the top spot, pursued by six-packing Channing Tatum and Tyson Beckford.

Aniston came in second again in the category of “Most Desired Hair” (first was country crooner Taylor Swift, third was reality starlet Kim Kardashian) and when it came to schnozzes, Natalie Portman was 2010’s winner, followed closely by Emma Stone and category veteran Nicole Kidman.

In the lips category, Angelina Jolie came in second for the first time in quite some time. The Oscar-winning beauty, famous for her plump pout, was stopped by 26-year-old, newly single, Scarlett Johansson.

The docs said in 2010, keeping it real was the top priority for those seeking artificial enhancements.

“The biggest trend we have seen this year is that patients are requesting a more natural look. If you review the names on the list, you will notice that all of those people look naturally beautiful,” added Mayer. “We have been performing plastic surgery for 35 years and after 35 years of stressing the non-surgical look, our list reflects non-surgical looking people.”

I am sure many of us want to be beautiful, and we unwittingly try to compare ourselves to our most loved celebrities. The truth is, most celebrities aren't always as glamourous as those fancy fashion magazines would like us to believe.

As beautiful and dashing they are, they all need a little help (sometimes a lot!) with digital re-touching. It is call Photoshopping, the art of digital manipulation using the powerful and versatile software, Adobe Photoshop.

I have been using this blogger account to manage my Internet presence for a while. I started out using Blogger because it is convenient and fast.

A few years down the road now, I am seriously considering engaging a professional web company to design my website. My choice is obvious. XIMNET MALAYSIA will be a perfect match in terms of their design skills and industry experience. I consider XIMNET MALAYSIA to be the best web design and Internet strategy company in Malaysia. Well yes, the reasons are obvious.

Recently, XIMNET launched XTOPIA (http://www.xtopia.com.my/), and I am thinking now of using this as the platform for me to serve my customers better. Since it has the ability to manage content with its in-built CMS (Content Management System), track sales opportunities, store my customers database, manage service requests, I think it will be good for me. Another thing is, I am thinking of starting a Loyalty Program and I understand that XTOPIA has a built-in loyalty program system.

I will get started once I am clear on what I want to do and how much I am willing to invest.

Poll: How Much Is Beauty Worth at Work?

NEWSWEEK surveyed hiring managers and job seekers about the role of beauty in the workplace. The bottom line? It pays to be good-looking.

We’ve all heard the stories about how pretty people have it easy: babies smile more around good-looking parents; handsome kids get better grades and jobs, and earn more money; the list goes on. Still, we’d probably all like to think that we’ve earned our jobs on merit alone—and that, in this economy, it’s our skill that will get us back in the game. But if you believe the results of two new NEWSWEEK Polls, you’d better think again—because in the current job market, paying attention to your looks isn’t just about vanity, it’s about economic survival. Job candidates have always been counseled to dress up for interviews. But our surveys suggest managers are looking beyond wardrobe and evaluating how "physically attractive" applicants are.

NEWSWEEK conducted an online survey of 202 corporate hiring managers, from human-resource employees to senior-level VPs, as well as a telephone survey of a nationally representative sample of 964 members of the public, only to confirm what no qualified (or unqualified) employee wants to admit: that in all elements of the workplace, from hiring to politics to promotions, even, looks matter, and they matter hard. The eight most interesting revelations:

1. Just Admit It: Looks Do Matter at Work

When it comes to getting hired in the first place, 57 percent of managers believe an unattractive (but qualified) job candidate will have a harder time getting hired; 68 percent believe that, once hired, looks will continue to affect the way managers rate job performance. It’s a view that’s reinforced among survey respondents from the general public, a third of whom are either retired or looking for work themselves: 63 percent said being physically attractive is beneficial to men who are looking for work, and 72 percent said it was an advantage for women.

2. Looks Matter More Than Education, Apparently

Asked to rate nine character attributes from one to 10 (with 10 being the most important), looks came in third (with a mean score of 7.1), below experience (8.9) and confidence (8.5), but above where a candidate went to school (6.8) and a sense of humor (6.7). Does that mean candidates should throw away their college funds on a nose job? Probably not. But it does show that not all recruiters are looking for an Ivy League diploma.

3. Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is. (We Suppose That Could Be Taken Literally.)

Fifty-nine percent of hiring managers advised spending as much time and money “making sure they look attractive” as on perfecting a résumé. Botox, anyone?

4. Yes, We Knew This: It’s Worse for Women

Most news junkies have probably heard the story of Debrahlee Lorenzana, the Queens woman who sued Citibank last month, alleging she was fired for being “too hot.” Whether or not there’s any validity to the woman’s case, women in the workplace are often faced with a double bind: they are expected to be sexy but can be punished for being too attractive. Sixty-one percent of the hiring managers we surveyed—60 percent of whom were men—said they believe a woman would benefit from wearing clothing that shows off her figure at work. Meanwhile, 47 percent of those same managers said they believe some women are penalized for being too good-looking in the office. As a whole, women are perceived to benefit more from their looks: 39 percent of managers believe that being “very good-looking” is more of an advantage for women than men, while only 16 percent believe the opposite—that it’s more beneficial to men than to women. (Is anybody surprised?)

5. We Hate Fat People—Even Though Most of Us Are Fat

Almost 75 percent of Americans may be overweight, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, yet the fact remains that we discriminate against fat people at work and in life. Two thirds of business managers said they believe some managers would hesitate before hiring a qualified job candidate who was significantly overweight.

6. We Also Dislike Old People

Eighty-four percent of managers said they believe some bosses would hesitate before hiring a qualified job candidate who looked much older than his or her co-workers.

7. And Apparently We Think ‘Lookism’ Is OK. (In Certain Situations.)

Sixty-four percent of hiring managers said they believe companies should be allowed to hire people based on looks—when a job requires an employee to be the “face” of a company at retail stores or in sales. But here’s the contradiction: 60 percent of them also said they believe most Americans would favor a law making it illegal to discriminate in hiring based on looks. The reality is more evenly split: 46 percent of the public said they would favor a law making hiring discrimination based on appearance illegal.

8. Don’t Throw Yourself Off the Balcony Yet—Confidence Is Important, Too!

Confidence—and experience, of course—can still go a long way when it comes to succeeding at work. Remember, both ranked first and second on a list of the most important employee attributes. Beauty bias notwithstanding, there are still opportunities for people who aren’t hotties—and lots of them.

Skin doctor in KL, Malaysia?

A few of my patients have been asking me to move my clinic to KL (Kuala Lumpur) so that I can be more centrally located for them.

This is especially true for my expatriates patients as they live in the city and they find travelling to Subang Jaya, or for the matter, Petaling Jaya, a little inconvenient.

I've run my skin clinic for a couple of years now, and while I do find the parking at Taipan, Subang Jaya a little challenging at times, I'll have to say I am rather reluctant to move my practice to KL. I also live nearby Subang Jaya and grown to like this place a lot. Moreover, I cannot imagine driving to KL every morning. I used to do that, but I am happy I don't have to do that anymore.

However, I did consider moving to JayaOne, Section 13, PJ (Petaling Jaya), because I really like the place. But after much consideration, I've decided to continue my practise at Taipan, Subang Jaya.

For those of you who are looking for a skin doctor, or an aesthetic clinic in KL, I hope you can find someone in the city.

Yoga may help cancer survivors sleep better, boost energy

Hi all, here's something other than beauty tips and porcelain skin talks for you. This is something you can all do, other than shopping and watching TV at home :-). Remember, it is better to work on prevention than cure. Find a yoga class, and get started asap. A healthier body makes a prettier/handsomer you... Having said that, I should get started myself. HAHA!

NEW YORK, May 21 — Cancer survivors might want to try yoga to get a better night’s sleep and to boost their energy levels, according to a US study.

Researchers from the University of Rochester Medical Centre in New York randomly assigned more than 400 cancer survivors, most of whom had been treated with chemotherapy for breast cancer, into two groups.

One group did gentle Hatha yoga and restorative yoga — including special postures and breathing and mindfulness exercises — twice a week for a month. The other was only monitored, following standard practice.

Those who did yoga were able to cut back on sleeping pills and slept better, as measured by a 22 per cent increase in sleep quality on a commonly used scale. That was nearly twice the improvement of survivors who didn’t do the exercises. Yoga also cut fatigue by close to half, and led to a small increase in quality of life.

That is good news for cancer patients, said researcher Karen Mustian who led the study that will be presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting in early June.

“We really don’t have any good remedies for fatigue for cancer survivors,” she told Reuters Health.

Although patients may take drugs to help them sleep, such medications have side effects and aren’t usually long-lasting which led Mustian’s team to look for alternatives.

How yoga achieves its relaxing effects isn’t completely clear.

“It may be promoting social bonding,” Mustian said, adding that preliminary studies have suggested it could also lower stress hormones.

For cancer survivors seeking help from yoga, Mustian recommended looking for Yoga Alliance-certified instructors, especially those who have experience with people dealing with illness. She also stressed that the results may not apply to all forms of yoga.

Dr Douglas Blayney, president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, said physicians and oncologists were often uncomfortable advising patients who wanted to use therapies that were complementary to standard cancer therapy.

“A physician can say with some confidence, ‘yes, this kind of yoga program may be useful’,” Blayney, who was not involved in the research, told Reuters Health.

“Here we have a studied intervention, one that has been subjected to clinical trials and, lo and behold, it seems to be beneficial.” — Reuters

Hillary Clinton's enemies have long criticised her political -makeover, from the liberal firebrand First Lady to the moderate senator and White House candidate that she is today.

Now, the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination is the subject of a whispering campaign suggesting that she has also undergone a physical makeover - with Botox injections to enhance her appearance.

Sen Clinton's fresh-faced demeanour at last weekend's New Hampshire presidential debate has unleashed a flurry of speculation, among newspaper columnists and on the internet, that she has used artificial means to banish the wrinkles.

The debate has revealed again the importance of appearance in the race for the White House, and the extra scrutiny that falls on Sen Clinton as the first woman with a realistic chance of becoming president.

He is one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors and as such is adored by women the world over.
So it will be reassuring for the rest of mankind to know that George Clooney too has insecurities about the onset of middle age.

Promoting his latest movie, Oceans 13, at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday, Clooney, 47, looked to have dyed his trademark greying hair an alarming shade of blond.

He also seemed to have slimmed down considerably and to have over-done it in the French Riviera's unforgiving sun.

Clooney's rejuvenated look comes just a few weeks after he revealed that he had undergone surgery to remove the saggy skin around his eyes.

Back in January Clooney confided in friend Julia Roberts during a TV interview that he had undergone surgery on his eyes.

He told Roberts: "I think it's important to look awake."

Lisa Jeynes admits she spends up to a £1,000 a year on Botox injections

For some, it can be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to turn back the clock and restore their former good looks.

For others, it seems, cosmetic surgery — particularly Botox — can turn into an obsession.

As a study reveals that four in ten people who use Botox feel compelled to do so repeatedly, Adam Searle, president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), will tell a conference of surgeons this week that more patients are becoming "addicted" to surgery.

"Cosmetic surgery is potentially habit-forming," he says, adding that many patients may have imagined ugly body syndrome (also known as body dismorphic disorder), where they become obsessed by what they perceive as a defect in their appearance.

Dr Eileen Bradbury, a consultant psychologist at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, near Manchester, treats patients hooked on cosmetic procedures.

She says: "People can become addicted to the anticipation, the excitement and the attention they receive.

"There is a short-lived result of feeling fabulous, but after the post-procedure high, life goes back to normal and all the mundane problems return, so you need to go for another fix."

Jay Nicholls, 32, is a model and dancer and lives in Battle, East Sussex, with her son Harry, nine. Jay says:

Even when I’ve not had the cash available, I’ve just put it on credit, because it’s so important for me to keep up with the injections.
